Patrick Thorwarth studied Crop Sciences with specialization in Plant Breeding and Seed Sciences at the University of Hohenheim. After obtaining his M.Sc. degree, he started his work as a PhD student in the group Crop Biodiversity and Breeding Informatics led by Prof. Karl Schmid at the University of Hohenheim. His research focus on the application and optimization of molecular breeding methods such as Genome wide association studies and Genomic Selection using empirical and simulated data, with an emphasis on self-fertilizing plants such as barley (Hordeum vulgare L.).
