Dr. A. R. Rao is working as a Principal Scientist at Centre for Agricultural Bioinformatics (CABin), ICAR-Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute, New Delhi. He did his Ph.D. in Agricultural Statistics from ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi and has got post-doctoral work experience in Bioinformatics from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York and University of Washington, Seattle, USA. He is Faculty Member and Research guide in the disciplines of Agricultural Statistics and Bioinformatics, Post Graduate School, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. His main research interests are Quantitative Genetics, Statistical Genomics, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. He played a lead role in establishing centralized lab facilities and introducing the research, teaching and training activities in Bioinformatics at the Institute.
Dr. A.R.Rao has made significant research contributions in the field of Agricultural Statistics in general and application of Statistical and machine learning techniques in Genetics, Genomics and Bioinformatics in particular. Different off-line programs, open source software, tools and browsers developed by him have been widely accepted by the National Agricultural Research and Education System. He has conducted various research projects with the grants received from Department of Biotechnology, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, ICAR-National Agricultural Science Fund and World Bank. Dr.Rao has guided around ten students as Chairman and published several papers in journals of National and International repute http://cabgrid.res.in/cabin/arrao.aspx.

Dr. Rao is an elected Fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Science (NAAS), Fellow of Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding and Fellow of Society for Applied Biotechnology. He has been awarded with the DBT Overseas Associateship (Long Term) by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. He is member of various national level committees and task forces constituted by DBT and also member in editorial board of national and international journals.
